Sonia Yau, DDS
Hello! I came to the Rutland area in 2014. I was born in Taiwan, and my family immigrated to Montreal when I was little. I am used to the snow and cold! I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in various parts of the world and find out that I prefer the small town feel.
After graduating from McGill University with a mechanical engineering degree, I worked in the financial industry for a few years. While I enjoyed playing with the numbers and charts, I decided to pursue dentistry and obtained my D.D.S from University of Toronto. I then completed a General Practice Residency in Akron, OH. After residency, I spent three years working in a corporate practice in Queensbury, NY. During my search for a different setting for practicing dentistry, I met the wonderful people at Michael’s office and the rest is history.
In my spare time, I read about … teeth. Okay now that sounds boring! In all seriousness, I enjoy various forms of exercise, including running and yoga (I do make a valiant effort to run, although sometimes my legs don’t want to cooperate). My dog seems to really enjoy exploring the outdoors and I try to indulge him as much as possible.
My family is spread out all over the world. My mother lives in England and my younger brother in Singapore. Despite the distance, we are pretty close. And believe it or not, I am in touch with my brother almost daily. I currently live in Mendon with my husband and our two dogs. I am very fortunate to have found a career that I absolutely enjoy. I love listening to people's stories, and, what can I say, I love teeth!
